VMIVME-5565 board

Features introduction: VMIVME-5565 is a VMEbus member of GE Fanuc Embedded Systems VMIxxx-5565 series reflective memory real-time network products. Other members of the family are the VMIVME-5565, a PCI mezzanine card (PMC) and the VMIPCI-5565, a PCI compatible board. All three products are network compatible and can be integrated into the network in any combination. This family of products allows computers, workstations, PLCs and other embedded controllers with different operating systems or no operating system to share data in real time. For local nodes, the reflective memory board appears as shared memory. Any level of software, including the application itself, can write data to or read data from memory. Data written to one node’s reflective memory is transmitted by the network hardware to all other nodes and placed at the same address on those nodes’ reflective memory boards. This data transfer can be done without the involvement of the processor on any node. Using this system, all nodes on the network have immediate access to a local copy of the shared data. Product Overview: The reflective memory concept provides a very fast and efficient way of sharing data between distributed computer systems. GE Fanuc Embedded Systems’ VMIVME-5565 reflective memory interface allows data to be shared between up to 256 independent systems (nodes) at rates up to 174 Mbyte/s. Each reflective memory board can be configured with 64 MB or 128 MB of onboard SDRAM. Local SDRAM provides fast read access times to stored data. Writes are stored in local SDRAM and broadcast to other reflective memory nodes via high-speed fiber-optic data paths. Data transfer between nodes is software transparent, so no I/O overhead is required
